Roses & Wine Romance Book Club
Hi. I’m Michelle.
The Roses & Wine Romance Book Club started because I wanted to read and discuss romance novels with other people and did not find such a book club close to me in Nairobi. Most book clubs, I find, like to focus on serious books, the ones categorised as “literary”. Also, they like to meet in the morning and on weekends, neither of which was palatable to me. I figured surely I cannot be the only reader in Nairobi who knows romance novels to be worthy of discussion and who refuses to get up and go early on a Saturday. So here we are.
I host the book club now one Thursday a month in Lavington from 6pm to 8pm. It is open to any reader in Nairobi who is interested but seating is limited to a maximum of 15 people. Every month details of the next book club meet-up and what we will be reading are shared on this page and on a Whatsapp broadcast as well as as an event on Mookh.com. There you can find and purchase tickets, which go towards catering for the bitings and wine that we enjoy along with our conversation.
Our book club is a wonderful place to meet other readers of romance in Nairobi, and particularly romance by African writers, which is our focus. I document our reads here on The Kenyan Bookmaker, so please browse to get a feel for the vibes and what we’ve discussed so far. Feel free also to add your comments if you find that we have read a book on which you have thoughts that you simply must share.
If you love reading and love romance and have been looking for an intimate setting in which to share this joy with others and make new friends, we would love to have you. Please check out this Google Form to find out if our set-up would work for you and then head over to Mookh to get your ticket.
Our upcoming meet-up in July will be discussing Bridges are for Burning by Bina Idonije. I hope you will join us!
